Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance
NMSU strongly advises that participants purchase trip cancellation insurance and/or interruption insurance to safeguard against losses or penalties should the participant withdraw for any reason (including failure to obtain a visa, flight cancellation, testing positive for COVID-19, repatriation due to COVID-19, or any other personal reason), or should a program be canceled or its dates changed. Expenses resulting from such changes will not be covered by the NMSU Geo Blue International Health Insurance plan, nor will NMSU be responsible for reimbursing these costs. Trip cancellation and/or interruption insurance plans provide financial protection in the event that a student must unexpectedly cancel or interrupt their educational program. These plans can also minimize financial loss in the event that a student must withdraw from a program after commitment, due to unforeseen circumstances. When selecting a plan, be mindful of the coverage included in your mandatory NMSU’s GeoBlue International Health Insurance Plan, so that you do not duplicate coverages, and search for coverages in specific areas and risks that are not already covered in this plan. We recommend that you look at the fine print for any plan you consider purchasing, as many of these will have a “pandemic exclusion.” Look for plans that include “cancel for any reason” and “interrupt for any reason” coverage. While NMSU does not endorse any particular company, a few examples of online vendors where trip cancellation policies can be purchased are included below.
